Story Artist: Mark Simon – Stranger Things

I am a huge fan of Stranger Things, so when I got the call to storyboard on the series, I screamed like a little girl. We were right in the middle of storyboarding on episodes 405 and 406 when Covid hit and shut down all productions in the United States. One minute I was drawing Hopper and the next I got a call saying all work had to stop. It was crushing, but the show eventually started back up and now we all get to enjoy the latest chapter of Hawkin’s story.

Illustrations by Alex Saviuk – Ra-One

Ra-One is the biggest movie star in India. A few years ago he starred in a superhero movie and wanted comic book style images to turn himself into a comic book superhero for the movie promotion. We provided the design and illustration, based on the movie. Illustration by Alex Saviuk.

Illustrations by Willie Castro – Tattoo Book

The author of the kids book, Is a Tattoo Right For You, came to us asking for illustrations for his book, we thought it would be fun to draw the art on the arms of gang members. But, instead we decided to do really kick ass drawings digitally. I think we are all happy that we don’t see hairy forearms behind the characters. Illustrations by Willie Castro.

Illustrations by Mark Simon – SQ Set

What do Steven Spielberg and Mark Simon have in common? The series seaQuest DSV. Mark drew all the storyboards and did the concept art. Steven had something to do with…everything. This is one of the barracks sets for the hit series.

Illustrations by Tom Richmond – Dr J Poster Clinto

Dr. J asked us to provide a faux cover for his Zing Zest comic book featuring President Clinton. And, he wanted it to have the feel of a MAD Magazine cover. In the background is Dr. J acting like Maxwell Smart and the love of his life, Irene Singletary, acting as Agent 99. If you don’t know that is, you are too young. Art direction by Mark Simon. Illustration by MAD Magazine artist Tom Richmond.

Illustrations by Mark Simon – Waterboy

Remember that Adam Sandler movie? We do. Actually, when Mark started on the movie, he didn’t like the script. But the final movie was actually pretty damn funny. Mark drew the storyboards, the team logos and the tattoo of Roy Orbison on Henry Winkler’s ass. You can see Mark’s art on the helmets and scoreboards, but you probably can’t look about from the Fonz’s butt. Check out the video below to see when Mark finally met Henry Winkler and shared what they had in common.

Illustrations by Mark Simon – Stitch

We love the original Disney movie, Lilo and Stich. Disney was about to do a campaign for a Stitch attraction as Disney World using 2D animation, but decided to animate a 2D character in 3D for the commercial. For those of you who saw the ugly blue dog in the commercial and wondered what it was…don’t blame us. This proves that they should have used us to do 2D animation instead. Art by Mark Simon.

Illustrations by Mark Simon – Phooey-Eddie Illustration Screensaver

Hong Kong Phooey may become a major motion picture. Yep, that 1970’s Hanna Barbera cartoon voiced by Scatman Cruthers may become the next Smurfs. Eddie Murphy has been cast as the voice. Mark Simon is head of story and worked on the demo for Warner Bros, directed by Alex Zamm. This piece was drawn by Mark and given to the director and producers (including Brett Ratner) at the end of the demo.
