Mark Simon,

Producer/Director/Story Artist

Mark Simon, known as the Godfather of Storyboarding, counts more than 35 years of experience working in the entertainment industry as a storyboard artist and director, amassing over 6,000 production credits.

Mark has storyboarded such hit series as Stranger Things, Dexter, Marvelous Mrs Maisel, FBI, and The Walking Dead as well as over 60 feature films like The Waterboy and Father of the Bride.

He has owned two animation studios and has produced animation of Disney’s iconic Tinker Bell. He also produced the animation for Fox’s film Tooth Fairy 2, starring Larry the Cable Guy and is the animation producer on Universal’s Little Rascals and How High 2 movies. Timmy’s Lessons In Nature, the animated shorts which Mark Simon developed, directed and produced, won Grand Prize in Nickelodeon’s first-ever Nicktoons Film Festival.

He has won over 200 awards for projects he’s written and directed.

Mark consulted with the Toon Boom software team which won the 2012 Prime Time Engineering Emmy for the Storyboard Pro software. He was also inducted into the DAVE SCHOOL (Digital Animation & Visual Effects School) Hall of Fame.

Mark has pitched and sold more than 35 production and distribution deals for his original concepts, and worked with Disney, Nickelodeon, The Golf Channel, HSN and other networks pitching in-house productions.

Prior to storyboarding and producing, he was an art director in live-action film and TV in Los Angeles, CA and Orlando, FL. While in Los Angeles, he designed many feature films, music videos and commercials. He then became the second art director at the new Nickelodeon Studios in Orlando, FL in 1989.

Mark was also a 2nd unit director for Nickelodeon and on Steven Speilberg’s seaQuest DSV as well as working as a Special Effects Supervisor for NBC and Fox network shows.

Mark is also the author of thirteen popular books, mostly for artists, such as Storyboards: Motion In Art and Facial Expressions, and has written over 100 articles for AWN.com (Animation World Network), Animation Magazine, Filmmaker Magazine, Cinefex and others.

He has produced numerous courses on LinkedIn Learning and has created curriculums and digital courses for five colleges and universities.

He lectures around the world at major conferences, conventions, and universities, and is a second degree black belt and two-time national champion in Tae Kwon Do.
