This was another spot I boarded with Jeff Tremaine, creator of Jackass. This was shot in Tampa at the same time as the Buccaneers spot I did with him.

When I first saw the spot, I didn’t think all of the gags we designed were there, but they are. The paper masks, the cheerleaders and more. It’s a fast-moving spot. And in case you were wondering, it really was a surprise for the star of the shoot. He didn’t know what was going on, so we had to design all the camera angles to be hidden cameras.

A year after our first Brett Favre spot, the client came back to do another. My favorite panel is near the end where Brett glares at the guys who just made a bad joke about one of his losses. I really like the way that drawing came out.

It was fun to draw Brett Favre as both his unkempt self and his cleaned up version. The funniest part of the project is that I liked the product I was drawing so much, I actually bought one during pre-production. I love it.

This board was also the first real-time animatic the client had done (using our Storyboard Pro software). They loved it. I included the comparison video here for you to see how close our boards/animatic were to the finished project.

Mark Simon has boarded literally thousands of commercials. These boards are part of a series of Toyota spots. The director worked in Miami while Mark got to stay at his studio and delivered the entire project early.

Mark boarded this 6 minute short film for the Chevy Equinox. He made use of the director’s location pics and product shots provided by Chevy.

Mark boarded this 2 minute noir-style short film for Asics running shoes. The entire board was completed long distance with Mark in Orlando and the director in Ireland. They used Skype to allow the director to watch Mark draw real-time.

Mark Simon storyboarded this pilot for the director from a different country. Creator/director Raquel Lopez Bouganin works in Canada and our studio is in Orlando. This job was the first time she worked with a story artist virtually using our Skype/Storyboard Pro combo. She loved it, “I enjoyed the meeting very much. It’s no different than when you have the storyboard artist in the same room.” She saw the boards as we roughed them out. This saves a huge amount of time as we get approvals in the sketch process.

Every DAVE School class produces an animated short. They worked with toy designers Art Asylum to create an animation based on their Specidemon toys. Mark Simon wrote this short and produced the storyboards.

Mark Simon provided storyboards and animatics for Chucky creator/writer/director Don Mancini for Universal’s latest Chucky movie, Cult of Chucky. Most of the movie takes place in one location, so Mark built a 3D model of the location to import and use in his Storyboard Pro software. That allowed he and the director to walk through the location and find the perfect shots before he sketched the storyboards.
