STORY ARTIST: Mark Simon – Doom Patrol

Mark Simon has been a fan of Doom Patrol since the early 70’s…and now he gets to draw this crazy show. Doom Patrol is featured on the DC Universe app and will soon be on HBO Max. As usual, Mark also provided production with a detailed animatic of each big sequence in the same amount of time it took him to draw the storyboards.

STORY ARTIST: Mark Simon – Dynasty

Dynasty has need for VFX and stunts every few episodes, which is where Mark comes in. Mark creates storyboards and animatics so the director can see how the sequence works before it’s shot. Motion shows the crew better than just storyboards. This sequence had a musical element to it, which we added to the animatic.

STORY ARTIST: Mark Simon – The Walking Dead

Mark Simon has been storyboarding for 8 seasons across 4 shows of The Walking Dead universe. This sample was also profiled on The Talking Dead as Negan rips barbed wire through the top of a walker’s head. Mark also created an animatic of this exciting sequence.

STORY ARTIST: Mark Simon – The Walking Dead – Movie

Story artist Mark Simon creates the storyboards and animatics for The Walking Dead. This is from episode 914, where Michonne has to fight off a pack of feral kids and save her daughter. Fun fact, I had storyboarded director Millicent Shelton’s first feature film over 20 years ago, The Ride.
Director Millicent Shelton: “Thanks! You’re awesome!”

STORY ARTIST: Mark Simon – Make The Walking Dead

Mark Simon has brought a new style of storyboarding to The Walking Dead, as well as animatics. From episode 913, Mark was able to get a 3D render of the set, which he incorporated into the storyboard for perfect representation. The fight between Daryl and Beta was meticulously broken down with Mark, the director, the writer, the DP and stunt coordinator. Mark broke down the sequence in real time while projecting his boards onto a huge monitor, so everyone could see it and comment.

Cartoons by Alex and Mark – Tower Of Terror

Disney Studios theme part at Disney World asked us to storyboard a live-action commercial promoting their revised Tower of Terror ride. They liked it so much they asked us to turn our storyboards into a web animation for the Disney site. Famed comic book artist, Alex Saviuk, working from Mark Simon’s boards and designs, illustrated this Flash animation.
